Studying in Canada

Canada admits over 140,000 international students every year. Canadians place great importance on learning, and have developed a first-rate education system with high standards.

Foreign students bring a rich culture to Canadian classrooms and play a vital role in Canada’s future economy and work force. To study in Canada, students must either apply for a study permit or a temporary resident visa, though it is not required for all students, most must have documentation. Before a student is eligible to apply for a study authorization, the student must first be accepted at a recognized school, university, or college in Canada.

Who Can Apply?
  • You must be able to prove that you have enough money to pay for your;
    • Tuition fees
    • Living expenses for your self, and any family members who accompany you
    • Return transportation for you, and any family members who accompany you
  • You must be a law-abiding citizen with no criminal record
  • You must be in good health and willing to complete a medical examination, if necessary

Can I stay in Canada once I complete my studies?
Canada allows foreign students who have completed their studies and qualify under the Canadian Experience Class (CEC) to apply for landed immigrant status. To find out more contact our office.

Can I bring my family with me to Canada while I study?
Yes. You may bring your spouse, common-law partner, and dependent children. Your spouse or common-law partner will receive an open work permit for the duration of your studies.

What about health insurance?
Unfortunately, the government of Canada does not pay for the medical costs of foreign students. Health insurance is a provincial jurisdiction and varies among provinces. We recommended you to contact the school to which you are applying or attending to receive more information regarding the health insurance packages they offer.

Processing times for study permit applications vary between 1 month and 3 months, depending on the country where you are applying.
